If your air conditioner is leaking water, you may wonder why that’s happening. Below is some information to help diagnose the issue yourself. Mr °Fahrenheit is always here to help solve these issues and help you keep your AC unit nice and healthy.
If your AC is leaking inside the home, it’s most likely due to a clogged condensate drain line. Over time, this line can become clogged with debris like dirt, dust, or mold. When your condensate drain line gets clogged, water can’t escape and drain to the outside of the home. The line becomes backed up, causing the condensation to come back inside and leak water into your home.
A dirty air filter can make your system work harder, resulting in possible damage or worn-out parts.
In addition to causing strain on your home’s AC system, a dirty filter can block the flow of air that moves over the unit’s evaporator coil. When the air is blocked, the coil becomes extremely cold and can start to freeze. As the frozen coil melts, the excess water can cause your pain to overflow. If the filter looks to be extremely dirty or clogged, it could be the reason why your air conditioner is leaking water inside the house.
As the volume of refrigerant gets lower, the pressure inside of your AC system lowers, too. This can also cause your evaporator coil to freeze, creating a wet mess. If you notice that your air conditioner isn’t cooling down your home like it should, check the refrigerant levels. Other signs include an unusual hissing or bubbling sound, which can indicate that you have a leak. If you catch a leak in time, you might be able to repair the damage. If not, you could end up having to pay for a completely new unit.
The size of a Split System air conditioner to be installed depends on the size of the room. In Australia you will need 120 to 150 Watt of power per square meter of floor area. Your floor area is your width x length of the room to be cooled. If you are looking for a ducted air conditioner size guide you need to work out how many rooms you will have on at the same time. Then work out the size of those rooms and add them together. This will give you a general idea of what sized unit you need.
This depends on the amount of space you need to heat or cool. Smaller homes, town houses may best suit one or two split system units. For a larger home or more than 2 rooms with sufficient ceiling space to heat or cool a ducted system will work best.
With a split system AC unit will come with a controller ranging from a traditional remote or a more premium back lit LED remote. However, Ducted systems can come with a Wi-Fi control via a wall mounted touch pad and a app compatible with a selected smart phone or tablet device.
AC units display a star rating for heating mode and cooling mode. Blue stars rate cooling efficiency and red stars assess heating. The better the star rating, the more energy efficient the unit.
The Australian government have a great website that gives full details and updates with regards to energy ratings: https://www.energyrating.gov.au/products/space-heating-and-cooling/air-conditioners
The AC unit manufacturer generally gives a 5 year warranty on the unit itself. However, different brands have different warranty policies. Mr °Fahrenheit gives a 2 year installation warranty on all his installs regardless of the product itself.
